KATHLEEN ARCHIBALD SIMON
Kathleen Archibald Simon was a devoted daughter and sister of John, Sylvia and Maureen; caring for each until their deaths. She was a supportive and loving wife for thirty-five years to Mike who cared for and kept her safe during the last several years. Born February 9th 1950. Kathy cherished her own and other’s birthdays, celebrating not only the day but the entire month. Kathy entered eternal life January 16th, 2021, on a holiday weekend, journeying to heaven as she always traveled on three-day weekends. She left on earth, her husband, Mike, brother in laws Bob Simon,Dennis George and sister in law Marianne, cousins and many friends.
Kathy followed two aunts and graduated from St. Mary of Nazareth School of Nursing. She was proud to be a nurse and was a life-long learner doing post graduate studies at both the University of Surry in England and University of Connecticut School of Medicine for Ayurvedic Medicine. She became an expert in holistic and alternative medicine applying it to her own daily living and incorporating it into her executive roles. Combining all her skills she was known as healthcare and wellness leader, author and consultant in nursing, healthcare systems, corporate businesses, and academic settings.
Her nursing career included Head Pediatric Nurse at Northwest Hospital and Senior Staff Nurse at ComEd. Her executive roles at ComEd and later Exelon focused on managing medical staff, administering and evaluating health care plans, developing strategic programs for the employees’ healthcare prevention, safety, and quality of life. Kathy held faculty roles at Concordia and the University of Illinois. She shared her expertise and leadership by volunteering on the Foundation Board at Lurie Children’s Hospital and being a trustee at St. Patrick’s High School.
Kathy had a zest for life like Elvis, passion like Marilyn, fashion and style like Audrey, grace like Diana, and a smile with beauty and kindness of her own like Kathy. She loved high tea, convertible rides, classic movies, reflective writing and music. She was happiest spending time in her favorite cities, Chicago, Palm Springs, New York and Lake Geneva.
She cherished and adored her friends as they did her. If you were lucky to be her friend, you were guaranteed a life time commitment of love, support, counsel, laughs, generosity, joy, truths, signature pound cake and Mexican food along with fine dining. She was godmother, religious sponsor and bride-mates to many and a life influencer to all. As her friend, you became part of her circle of her friends and their families.
Kathy will be missed but never forgotten, her life will live in our hearts. A remembrance and celebration of Kathy will occur, as Kathy would want, when it is safe.
